Pastel Online course

Towards the Solway painted in Pastels

Over the last few months I've really enjoyed getting back into some Pastel painting. I've painted in Pastels for many years, loving this medium that can give such stunning results.Living close to the Lake District Fells and Lakes, I'm never without inspiration come Winter or Summer. This medium gives such fantastic results and  is a great way to gain confidence when painting with other mediums. You don't need masses of equipment and you can pick up pastels as you go along.

With this in mind, I've been contemplating for a while about a Pastel Online course.
The feedback I've received from the Watercolour online Course has been fantastic and seeing students progress with gentle personal guidance and step by step instructions.

So here is a sneak preview into my new Online Pastel course  which include six landscape scenes from from the Lake District and a  gorgeous Poppy field.
The price of the Online course for six projects including step be step instructions and personal feedback after each project is £55.00 send me an email to enrol and for more details. For USA and Canadian  artists the price for the pastel online course is 90.00 USD.

Painting weekend courses, Lake District

The Lake District has inspired artists and poets for centuries, and Grasmere more famously with Mr Wordsworth. To sketch a stream gently flowing or capture reflections on the Lakeshore, is truly inspiring. I love to share beautiful painting locations with inspiring artists and beginners new to this wonderful relaxing hobby.
I have two painting days coming up at Grasmere and Rydal water, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August. These two days will be spent in a small group, painting on location, with lots of demonstrations and gentle guidence. If you fancy a few days gaining inspiration in The beautiful Lake district send me an email for more details lakelandart@hotmail.co.uk

Reviews from 2015 courses at Grasmere
Thoroughly enjoyed painting with you. Everyone in the group spoke very highly of you and really enjoyed the time we had. They were such nice folks to be with as well. Will keep having a go at the watercolours as your enthusiasm has rubbed off!

Just wanted to say how much  I enjoyed our painting days with you at Grasmere. It was good to be with like minded people and to have you there to guide us. We both felt we had learned a lot in a short space of time. We particularly liked your demonstration and our studio session with you. It was helpful to see a painting from start to finish.
Both of us would love to come again. We liked the Glenthorne very much and we really enjoyed meeting you and sharing your love of watercolour. Now all we need to do is practise.
Thanks once again.

Perfect outdoor painting weather

After the heat wave last week it was vey pleasant to sit and paint in perfect conditions
for the water-colourist. Heavy rain clouds threatened above and the mountain tops kept disappearing under low cloud.
The hues and tones were ideal for watercolour painting. It is magical been outdoors, watching the landscape change before your eyes and the scene there for you to paint!
I had good company with fellow artists enjoying the peace and beauty of this special place.

Fantastic sky conditions today, so lots of different Blues came into action.

A glimpse of Turquoise and Cobalt Blue. From calm reflections,  the lake changed to rather choppy conditions perfect for the dry brush or a touch of wax.

Working on two smaller pieces helped with drying times and it was great fun not getting too wrapped up in a big piece of paper. Working fast outdoors can be ideal. Weather and light conditions change, and you can move to new locations.

I work with a camera tripod, with a  board fixed and paper taped on top.
It's lightweight and easy to adjust to whatever height. Been next to the Lake edge, I can use the water, but have been known to fall in!!

Watercolour washes

Enjoying playing with the watercolours this week. Felt inspired by the sultry stormy weather. I used a very limited palette in fact two colours were only used. Arches (not) paper was a dream and loved sloshing the mixes with plenty of water, to gain atmosphere and happy accidents. Quite different from the pastels.
Looking forward to a painting day around Derwentwater tomorrow, perfect watercolour weather I hope :-)
