A beautiful week here in the Lakes, the settled weather has complemented the Autumn Colours. This week found me finishing the Sensole Watercolour painting and starting on a large oil painting of Newlands Valley, walking the paths around Ullswater and Derwentwater and finishing the days with wonderful sunsets.

Watercolour
I was delighted with how this painting came together and brought back many happy memories painting in this special part of the Italian Lakes.
Sat looking at me, demanding attention, as I write this blog is my latest oil painting in it's first stage.
It's a 24 x 24 inch panel so there is a lot of work still to be done, I'm been inspired by the Autumn textures and hues, so lets see where it goes this week.
I keep thinking that I may do an oil tutorial, it is such a wonderful medium to work with, if not a bit messy at times.
Around 4pm at Ullswater, I love this time of year for witnessing the sunsets down by the lake, listening to all the ducks and birds settling in for the night.
A quick watercolour sketch beside Derwentwater, using a very tiny palette and a water brush, these are perfect for popping in a small bag, you can sit anywhere quite unnoticed. I love this little sketchbook, I have one every year and use it as a diary sketch. If you fancy learning a few new techniques or just picking up the watercolours , here is a link to my courses
It really was a stunning walk to Calfe Close bay, Derwentwater the colours are magnificent and with little wind, they are just hanging on.
