How to make Easy Watercolour Tonal Cards

Do you find that your watercolour painting looks wishy washy ?

It could be that all it needs is a bit more strength and tonal range.

I made these these tonal cards, to help me figure out where in the painting I needed more tonal values.

The confidence that these simple cards made was fantastic and changed my watercolour paintings into more dynamic scenes.

Here is a simple video to show you how to make them and how useful they will be in your paintings.

The tonal range in this painting needs more depth

The tonal range in Derwentwater is more varied and using just a few shades but more tonal values gives the painting more impact.

Blea Tarn  this is the second project on the Beginners online course and is perfect for trying out your tonal vales.
