Watercolour Courses for gentle relaxation.

River Ure, North Yorkshire.

Have you ever fancied painting in watercolours?

Can you imagine the joy it brings sitting beside a river on a Summers day, just looking at the scenery and nature. I often just paint in a sketchbook and it then doesn't matter what the outcome is, it's more about the enjoyment it brings to me sat enjoying nature.

Watercolour painting is far more than just painting pictures. It's such a release from the pressures of life and doing something just for you.

You don't need to go out and find a river bank, it can be done anywhere.

I've been running my online courses for over fifteen years now and I realise how important taking a little time for yourself is. My step by step videos are ideal for those wanting to take a quieter and relaxing approach to painting with no pressures. Gentle guidance.

If you would like more information you can email me jane at lakelandart@hotmail.co.uk or have a look at the web site Watercolour Courses with Jane Ward –  or I've even put a small video together about how the course is You tube link

The courses are designed to be taken anywhere, and if you are fluent in Yorkshire you will find the step by step videos a joy I'm sure.

Look forward to hearing from you

Jane

How to make Easy Watercolour Tonal Cards

Do you find that your watercolour painting looks wishy washy ?

It could be that all it needs is a bit more strength and tonal range.

I made these these tonal cards, to help me figure out where in the painting I needed more tonal values.

The confidence that these simple cards made was fantastic and changed my watercolour paintings into more dynamic scenes.

Here is a simple video to show you how to make them and how useful they will be in your paintings.

The tonal range in this painting needs more depth

The tonal range in Derwentwater is more varied and using just a few shades but more tonal values gives the painting more impact.

Blea Tarn  this is the second project on the Beginners online course and is perfect for trying out your tonal vales.

Winter Tree, North Stainley

Winter Tree, North Stainley

Painted in Acrylic

Size 14 x 12.5 inches

I had lots of fun painting this gorgeous Tree.

It started on a beautiful Sunny Winters day, a circular walk from West Tanfield, across the fields and down the River Ure towards North Stainley. The trees at the moment are great to paint and this one certainly caught my eye.

After a little research I found out it was a Horse Chestnut, with lovely graceful branches and delicate markings in the bark.

The painting is on Board and started with Acrylic Inks , a little masking was used and then the tree started to take shape. Acrylic paint was used in the background for the distance the Hambleton hills and the pretty village of North Stainley.

If you would like any other information about this Original painting just send me an email

New Year , new ideas

Moving back to North Yorkshire has opened my eyes to new painting ideas and subjects.
Winter Trees have certainly caught my attention. In the Lakes, the fells often took the glory, but here in North Yorkshire with wide open Skies and endless vistas, the Trees are beautifully silhouetted.

Winter Trees, North Yorkshire, Mixed Media

Trying out new techniques is always exciting, I started with a piece of watercolour paper applied gesso over a painting that I wasn't pleased with.

Acrylic ink was added first using Browns, magenta and Black. Clingflm was added on top and left to dry. Next came masking fluid for the Trees. With the masking fluid dry, Acrylic paint was used to paint the sky.

Now came the exciting bits.

How to remove the masking ?

A penknife and palette knife.

Final touches with more Acrylic ink and a few Oil pastels.

I hope this inspires , your new Year
